Habitat: Dry rocky bluff prairie on S- and SW-facing hilltops. Little disturbed and with excellent biodiversity. Other species found growing with Hansen, et al.: Rocky dry prairie on S-facing hilltops, with Andropogon scoparius, A. gerardii, Sporobolus heterolepis, Bouteloua hirsuta, B. curtipendula, Carex eburnea, Petalostemum candidum, P. purpureum, Muhlenbergia racemosa, M. cuspidata, Liatris cylindracea, L. aspera, Aster oblongfolius, A. ericoides, A. azureus, A. sericeus, Celastrus scandens, Euphorbia corollata, Amorpha canescens, Prunus pumila, Kuhnia eupatorioides, Coreopsis palmata, Linum sulcatum, Artemisia caudata, Solidago nemoralis, Oxybaphus hirsutus, Asclepias viridiflora, and on rock outcrops Pellaea glabella and Campanula rotundifolia. Invaders around the edges of the prairie include Populus tremuloides, P. grandidentata, Corylus americana, Betula papyrifera, Quercus borealis, and Rhus typhina.
