Habitat: Good-quality dense stand of conifer swamp forest (Larix laricina-Picea mariana, the latter at its southernmost limit in Wisconsin), w/ many bog shrubs (Alnus, Aronia, Ilex, Ericaceae) and acid bog plants (sedges, orchids, Drosera rotundifolia, Smilacina trifolia); Sphagnum capillifolium the ground layer dominant. Appears like a northern bog in a relatively southern location. Avg. tree size = 1--5 in. dbh.
