Habitat:
Among taller grasses than C. richardsonii & C. abdita; near top (upper slope) next to clump of Sorghastrum nutans, with Bouteloua curtipendula, Andropogon scoparius, Carex spp. (c.f. above), Ranunculus rhomboideus, Amorpha canescens, Dodecatheon meadea, shoots of Panicum praecocius & P. leibergii. Add. Information for Cochrane & Cochrane 9005-9008: Xerix prairie, with short hardy grasses dominant (Andropogon scoparius, Bouteloua curtipendula, Sporobolus heterolepis) and lesser amounts of Sorghastrum nutans, Panicum praecocius & P. leibergii. More or less steep hillside with thin (sandy silt loam, 2-3in deep) calcareous soil and fragments of limestone bedrock (Platteville dolomite) at surface.
