Habitat: Growing on a dry gravelly steep S-facing slope with some dry prairie species, in thin soil and full sun. Associates include: Anemone patens, Asclepias verticillata, Bouteloua curtipendula, Solidago missouriensis var. fasciculata, Arenaria stricta, Panicum perlongum, Erigeon strigosus, Melilotus alba, Verbena hastata, Andropogon plantaginifolia, Anemone cylindrica.
