Habitat: Growing intermingled with Carex communis. Acer saccharum--Tilia americana forest, with Betula alleghaniensis & Fraxinus nigra; uneven rocky terrain, wet from seepage, with springy pockets and fallen mossy logs; lower SW-facing slope. Assoc. species for Cochrane & Cochrane 9361-9369, 9416: Equisetum arvense, Athyrium angustum, Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda claytoniana, Dryopteris cristata, Thelypteris phegopteris, Glyceria canadensis, G. striata, Carex disperma, C. scabrata, C. stipata, C. intumescens, C. projecta, C. retrorsa (in wettest spots), Clintonia borealis, Laportea canadensis, Actaea rubra, Impatiens biflora, Circaea alpina, Sium suave, Mertensisa paniculata, Aster macrophyllus, A. puniceus.
