Habitat: Rich Acer saccharum (1 dom.)-Fagus grandifolia (2 dom.) forest with Betula papyrifera and Fraxinus americana (no coniferous trees); shrubs and saplings (Taxus canadensis, Ostrya virginiana, Prunus virginiana, Fraxinus americana) all infrequent; groundlayer species typical for the community: Adiantum pedatum (rare) Maianthemum canadense, Trillium grandiflorum, Smilacina racemosa, Habenaria viridis var. bracteata, Caulophyllum thalictroides (rare), Actaea pachypoda (rare), Aster macrophyllus (very common), Solidago flexicaulis (very common) plus several species of Carex, all associates of one another [C. deweyana (occasional), C. rosea (C. convoluta - frequent), C. communis (common), C. arctata (occasional), C. hitchcockiana (frequent), C. sparganioides (rare), C. platyphylla (locally common)]. Kiva sandy loam soil on old beach dune (abandoned shoreline of glacial lake).
