Habitat:
Southern upland forest, varying from dry-mesic (upper slopes) to mesic (middle & lower slopes), the dominant trees changing from place to place within the respect to relative importance values; compositional transitions also apparent to the relic stand of northern mesic, hemlock-dominated forest. Steep N-facing slopes with low cliffs and conglomerate boulders overlying (Upper Cambrian) Galesville Sandstone, shore of river. Sugar maple-red oak-basswood forest, with damp moss-covered quartzite conglomerate boulders; assoc.: Dryopteris marginalis, Athyrium angustum, Polygonatum pubescens, Solidago flexicaulis.
