Habitat: Growing in dry mineral soil under Thuja. Long-undisturbed cedar swamp dominated by Thuja occidentalis, with some Abies balsamea, and a few adult Betula papyrifera and Alnus rugosa in open areas. Associates: Onoclea sensibilis, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Osmunda regalis, O. cinnamonea, O. regalis, Botrychium virginianum, Lycopodium lucidulum, L. annotinum, Coptis trifolia, Cornus canadensis, C. stolonifera, Trientalis borealis, Clintonia borealis, Maianthemum canadense, Galium sp., Aralia nudicaulis, Mitella nuda, Iris sp., Impatiens seedlings, Ledum groenlandicum, Moneses uniflora, Fragaria cf. vesca, Ribes americanum, R. glandulosum, R. lacustre?
