Habitat: Northern mesic forest (Acer saccharum dominant, with Betula alleghaniensis, Acer spicatum, Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana) with very rich gorund layer (ferns, grasses, sedges, Ericaceae, Liliaceae) in gorge of creek. Habitat info for Cochrane & Cochrane 11570: In small Tsuga canadensis stand, (with Betula alleghaniensis, Tilia ameicana) at base of cataract. In spots where ground is bare; stems half grazed off. Assoc.: Maianthemum canadense var. canadense, Clintonia borealis, Streptopus roseus, Poa alsodes, and Dryopteris spinulosa var. intermedia.
