Habitat:
Deciduous woods and thickets of several kinds, usually dry but occasionally with moist spots or stands, on rocky hillsides and summit. In Betula papyrifera-Acer rubrum-Pinus strobus stand at base of outcrop at bottom of talus slope; assoc.; Carex communis, Acer rubrum seedlings, Viburnum acerifolium, and Cornus rugosa.
