Habitat: Northern mesic forest (Acer saccharum dominant, with A. spicatum, Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana, Ulmus americana) along hiking trail. Part-way up trail, lower W slopes of dome; occasional along edges of trail in moist shady woods, associating with Dryopteris intermedia, Clintonia borealis, Maianthemum canadensis var. canadense, Carex arctata, Ranunculus recurvatus, Solidago flexicaulis, Pyrola elliptica, and Abies balsamea and Fraxinus pennsylvanica seedlings.
