Habitat:
Culm erect, terete, hollow. 4-1.2 m high, leaves thick, tapering, tercte, grooved, upper surface transparent so that the divisions (septate) may be seen. Leaves 25-32 cm long. Involucual leaf 6-20 cm long. Flowering heads few, 6-10 many flowered, 20-30. All parts of plant completely glabous, leaves begin to dry up and disappear as fruit matures. Rays of involuae extremely short, giving heads a bunched or crowded [see back of label].
