Habitat:
Near bottom of hill, above Alnus swamp. Moist, sandy loam. Patches mostly in sparsely vegetated areas. Under light shade of large Quercus rubra. Understory of Ostrya virginiana, along with scattered Corylus cornuta, Amelanchier sanguinea, and Acer rubrum. Vaccinium angustifolium, Pteridium aquilinum, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Trientalis borealis, and Aster macrophyllus common also.
