Habitat: A short deep notch in Baraboo Range. Southern mesic forest developed on Galesville Sandstone (Upper Cambrian) in lower two-thirds of glen and on Tunnel City Group substrate (dolomitic quartz sandstone and thin dolomite layers; Upper Cambrian) in upper third of the glen. Dry-mesic forest in middle third of notch (840-890ft. elev), still mostly Ulmus americana-Carpinus caroliniana, with Quercus borealis, Juglans cinerea, Carya cordiformis, Celtis occideltalis; groundlayer associates: Equisetum arvense,
