Habitat: Narrow zone of muddy wet marsh, including a small bed of emergent and floating-leaved species on deep water side. Soil: fairly raw mucky peat; water: plentiful even during dry part of summer. Alisma plantago-aquatic var. americanum, Sagittaria latifolia, Echinocloa wateri, Polygonum hydropiper, Ranunculus pensyvanicus, Lythrum salicaria, and Ludwigia palustris var. americana.
