Acid boggy flat (old "borrow pit"); thin damp mossy peat over sand (subsurface layers of Plainfield Sand), wet near the bottom of the road levee, grading into sand prairie 40 yds. beyond where the substrate becomes drier. Assoc.: Carex stricta, Erigeron strigosus, Euthamia graminifolia, Onoclea sensibilis, Pedicularis canadensis, Potentilla simplex, Rubus hispidus complex, Salix humilis, and Spiraea alba.
