In Quercus woods and at field edge. Co-dominant with Quercus. Seedlings, saplings to trees with 200cm DBH. Bark grey and platy on older trees, reddish and lenticelled on saplings. Branches disfigured with a disease. Flowers in elongate racemes. Petals cream yellow.
