Habitat: Northern mesic forest on undulating pockmarked ground along river. Acer saccharum dom., with ample Betula papyrifera,some Tsuga canadensis, very little Pinus strobus. Understory seemlingly depauperate (no Polygonatum, Uvularia, Smilacina, Viola or Aralia and very little Maianthemum, Trientalis or Cornus canadensis); present are: Oryzopsis asperifolia, Carex arctata, C. peduncilata, Clintonia borealis, Actaea rubra, Dirca palustris, Pyrola elliptica, Diervilla lonicera, Acer rubrum seedlings and
