Black oak (Quercus velutina) barrens. Soil loose and sandy, covered by mosses and lichens. Assoc: Agrostis scabra, Carex pennsylvanica, C. foenica, Potentilla argentea, Lespedeza capitata, Euphorbia corollata, Helianthemum canadense,. Heterotheca villosa, Erigeron strigosus, etc.
