Habitat: In fencerow at edge of cultivated field and formerly pastured S-facing slope. Saplings of this species now apperaring abundantly in fencerow and old pasture since grazing stopped ca. 10yrs. ago. With Ulmus rubra, U. americana, Celtis occidentalis,. Vitis piraria, Quercus alba, Pyrus ioensis. Tree 10m. tall, 35cm. diameter; bark dark, closely furrowed. Terminal leaflet seldom fully developed. Fruit abundant, not quite mature, but nearly full size, light green, strongly aromatic, the foliage with a similar smell but much weaker.[See label...]
