Habitat: In rock rubble at base of bridge abutment, in semishade at edge of river bottom Acer saccharinum-Fraxinus pennsylvanica-Betula nigra forest. Assoc.: Onoclea sensibilis, Phalaris arundinacea, Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Fraxinus pennsylvanica seedlings and. saplings, Mentha canadensis, Aster lanceolatus, and Centaurea biebersteinii. Shrubs close together, with stems in loose clumps of 1, 1, 3, 4, 4, 7, and 20 from base (possibly one soboliferous plant?); leaves doubly serrate; hips red. Sheet 2 of 3
