Habitat: In variable prairie habitat in railroad right-of-way. Varying from wet (Spiraea alba) to damp (tall Silphium perfoliatum & Andropogon gerradi) to dry (A. scoparius & Petalostemum candidum). Soil mostly sandy. In full sun, moderately dry sandy soil. 1-2 m tall. Purple flowers.
