Habitat: Confined to low bank along little used road to fire tower and long abandoned mine. In middle-aged stand of Acer saccharum, Betula alleghaniensis. With Thelypteris phegopteris, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Athyrium, Dryopteris spinulosa,. Equisetum scirpoides. This slope of the Penokee Range receives a very high amount of snowfall.
