Habitat: Good-quality, 2nd-growth mesic hardwood forest (Acer saccharum-Tilia americana, with Fraxinus americana, Quercus rubra, Carya cordiformis, Juglans cinerea); shrub layer poorly developed, ground layer lush, with nearly every fern species known from the county (Botrychium virginianum, Brachyelytrum erectum, Bromus pubescens, Cinna latifolia, Carex radiata, Streptopus roseus, Dicentra canadensis, D. cucullaria, Isopyrum biternatum, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Phryma leptostachya, etc.
