Habitat: Rocky slope made by a road cut through an oak forest. Growing in sandy soil at the side of the road. Associates include Artemsia caudata, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Quercus velutina, Q. alba (dominated in canopy), Euphorbia corollata, Asclepias syriaca, Asclepias verticillata, Viola pedatifida, Polygonatum biflorum, Fragaria virginia, Lespedeza capitata.
