Habitat: With Galium concinnum, Asarum canadense, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Triosteum aurantiacum (T. perfoliatum), Sanuinaria canadensis, Aquilegia canadensis, Prenanthes alba, Polymnia canadensis, Polygonatum pubescens, Lonicera (dioca?), seedlings of Carya and Celtis, and Solidago, Osmorhiza and Geraniumn spp. W-facing woods on limestone talus, with a canopy of Celtis occidentalis, Tilia americana and a few Quercus macrocarpa (possibly with introgression from Q. muhlenbergii?)
