Habitat: Fine "relict" stand of Tsuga canadensis and Betula alleghaniensis with Acer saccharum and Tilia americana. Steep, rocky N-facing slopes of Cambrian sandstone bluff with low cliffs ledges and very steeply slanting ss. walls; shallow mineral soil w/ pH=5.2 Also with: Moister middle and lower slopes: Taxus canadensis, Athyrium thelypteroides, Dryopteris austriaca intermedia, Onoclea sensibilis, Carex albursina, Pilea sp., Laportea canadensis, Asarum canadense, Actaea rubra, Acer spicatum, Aralia racemosa
