Habitat: low boreal forest w/ Pinus strobus, Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, Acer spicatum, and Thuja occidentalis. Occurs where there is an opening with more sun than required by other boreal forest plants. Galium triflorum, Agrimonia gryposepala, Poa pratensisis, Clintonia and Mianthemum area common. Soil is calcareous under the humus layer, being on an old beach ridge.
