Habitat:
young mesic forest of Acer saccharum, A. spicatum & Betula papyrifera. Pefers areas with some direct sun and grows on very shallow soil composed of raw humus and moss on dolomite bedrock. With shrubs such as Ribes lacustre and herbaceous species such as. Aralia nudicaulis, Corydalis aurea, Cystopteris fragilis and Viola pubescens.
