Habitat: On traprock talus, narrow valley cut through ridges of Precambrian igneous bedrock (part of traprock ridges rising above Northern Highlands peneplain). In semishade of Pinus strobus-Betula payrifera woods, under Acer spicatum and Prunus virginiana shrubs with Diervilla lonicera, Fragaria virginiana, Maianthemum canadense, and Polypodium virginianum.
