Habitat: Muck bottom in 0-2 meters where it forms dense canopies with other floating leaf species. Common assoc.: (Nuphar variegata) spatterdock, (Ceratophyllum demersum) coontail, (Potamogeton zosteriformis) flat-stem pondweed.
Occurrence Remarks: Relatively common in its preferred habitat; especially in the south and southwest bays. [There is a duplicate accession number for a specimen of Heteranthera dubis; 18Jul2008, Berg, Matthew S.; 2008-006; Barron Co.- editor added "a"].
